Keira Knightley

Knightley, born in London in the family that included actors Will Knightley & Sharman Macdonald aged six, was the first actress to be employed by TV commercials and film. The role she played was a small one in the role of Sabe in the space opera Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999). Her big break came in the role of a teenage footballer in the film Bend It Like Beckham (2002) The film then went on to gain worldwide fame as Elizabeth Swann in the swashbuckler adventure series Pirates of the Caribbean, starting in 2003. Knightley was described as a promising teenage star after having a role as a character in Love Actually (2003). As the character she played, Elizabeth Bennet in the period romance Pride & Prejudice (2005), Knightley was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. She starred in a number of additional period works as a complex love interest on the screen in Atonement (2007) and a tastemaker Georgiana Cavendish as The Duchess (2008), and as the socialite who plays her in Anna Karenina (2012). She also appeared in contemporary dramas as an uninitiated music student as in Begin Again (2012) and as a doctor on the set of Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit (2013). Knightley came back to historic dramas in the role of Joan Clarke, in The Imitation Game, which brought her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
